Compound (COMP)

What is Compound?

Compound is an Ethereum-native lending protocol: users supply assets to earn interest or borrow against approved collateral in isolated markets. Interest accrues continuously; rates are a function of supply and demand in each market.

COMP is the governance token. Holding COMP is not required to use the protocol, but it encodes voting power over upgrades and risk settings. A distinctive feature is delegation: holders can point their voting weight to their own address or to a delegate (another user, a team, or a smart contract), which lowers friction for informed governance without forcing everyone to vote on every proposal.

Proposals can bundle many changes—listing a new asset, adjusting collateral factors, or updating interest-rate models. The threshold to submit proposals is set so governance stays serious but not impossible to reach.
