What is Celestia?

Celestia popularized the modular roadmap: instead of one monolithic chain doing execution and consensus and data availability, Celestia focuses on data availability (DA)—publishing rollup transaction data so anyone can download it and verify that the chain’s state transitions are consistent with what was posted.

Rollups (and other chains) can use Celestia as a DA layer while handling execution elsewhere. That separation is meant to scale throughput by letting many rollups share security for publishing while specializing in apps. TIA pays for blobspace and secures the DA network via staking; fee markets and parameters evolve with usage.

The modular bet is that DA becomes a specialized commodity; the risk is competition from Ethereum’s own DA roadmap (e.g. EIP-4844 blobs) and other DA providers—compare costs, throughput, and trust models when evaluating Celestia’s long-term role.
